iZombie Being Adapted For Television

Deadline brings us the following:

After wrapping his fan-funded Veronica Mars movie, Rob Thomas is reuniting with the film’s co-writer Diane Ruggiero for a zombie drama series project based a DC property. The CW has put in development iZombie, which Thomas and Ruggiero will write based on the characters created by Chris Roberson and Michael Allred and published by DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint. iZombie, from Warner Bros TV and Rob Thomas Prods, is a supernatural crime procedural that centers on a med student-turned-zombie who takes a job in the coroner’s office to gain access to the brains she must reluctantly eat to maintain her humanity. But with each brain she consumes, she inherits the corpse’s memories, and with the help of her medical examiner boss and a police detective, she solves homicide cases in order to quiet the disturbing voices in her head. Thomas and Rugierro, who previously served as an exec producer on Thomas’ series Veronica Mars and Cupid, are executive producing with fellow frequent Thomas collaborators Danielle Stokdyk and Dan Etheridge.

This is very interesting, given that I've always said (all through my reviews of the comics on A Little Dead Podcast) this concept would be a great Buffy The Vampire Slayer-esque television series.

Deadworld: Restoration (Comic)

Dread Central brings us the following:

IDW Publishing is bringing zombie comic Deadworld back to life this December. Gary Reed and Sami Makkonen, the team behind Deadworld: War of the Dead, continue where they left off and push the story into even darker territory with new mini-series Deadworld: Restoration.
“I’m excited about this series,” said writer Reed, “and the title of the series, Restoration, ties in with a number of different elements within the story. Yes, some things are restored, but it’s not going to be what most people think.”

Reed is the one of the original writers of the Deadworld series and a longtime contributor as well as the co-creator and writer of the Harvey Award nominee for Best New Series, Baker Street. Makkonen, of Eisner Award nominated series Hatter M fame, has won the prestigious Sarjis Award in Finland for Best Illustrator and is the artist for IDW’s recently released Ryse: Son of Damocles digital interactive graphic novel.

Deadworld: War of the Dead was the first Deadworld to be presented in color and won the Ghastly Award as Best Mini-Series of 2012 as well as received the same nominations from the Shel Dorf Awards and the Comic Monsters Awards. Check out the next chapter to the series described by Talking Comics as “frightening, haunting, gloomy, grave, and delectably mystifying.”

What Was It Like When The Walking Dead Was First Conceived?

Ever wonder what it was like for Robert Kirkman back before The Walking Dead turned into a monster TV hit? Back when it was just an indie comic book and no one knew whether the first issue that started it all would fly or flop? Us, too!

That's why we got together with Kirkman for the first installment of Blastr Origin Stories and asked him what it was like to hold The Walking Dead #1 in his hands, how those first tentative conversations about turning the comic into a TV series went with showrunner Frank Darabont, and more. The Gorilla with a Baseball Bat Returns!

This Halloween, three dogs, a cat, and a gorilla with a baseball bat continue their battle against the walking dead in the new four-issue miniseries REX, ZOMBIE KILLER from publisher Big Dog Ink.

And if the zombies weren't bad enough, they're now also being pursued by an aggressive group of primates from a zoo!

"It's going to be dogs versus apes versus zombies in the first issue...and then things are going to get REALLY crazy from there," said writer Rob Anderson.

REX, ZOMBIE KILLER tells the story of a hyper-intelligent Golden Retriever named Rex, a sign language-speaking gorilla, and a small pack of animals making a perilous cross-country journey to find safety...and a home.

Rex is trying to reach the doctor who raised him, but the doctor's been relocated to an underground military bunker in Nevada," Anderson said. "So even if they make it across a zombie-infested California, there's not necessarily a cozy fireplace waiting for them."

Issue #1 picks up from the One-Shot issue from 2012, and will make a great jumping-on point for new readers.

"We're extremely pleased to have REX, ZOMBIE KILLER back on the stands," said Big Dog Ink Publisher Tom Hutchinson. "The double-sized one-shot received acclaim from both horror and comics outlets, and fans have been asking for more, so here it comes!"

Fans and Media Watching Closely As This Story Unfolds
LOS ANGELES, CA–September 9, 2013—The Other Dead (IDW Publishing) comic’s creative team just received word that their book, slated to release on 9/11, is being held up in Customs “to spray for moths.” The timing is conspiracy theory-level suspicious, given the fact that the book’s one-in-10 variant cover by Eisner and Inkpot Award-winning artist Dave Dorman portrays President Obama wielding guns, just as the President is currently considering military action against Syria. “At first I thought Customs said they were spraying for Mothra, which was ironic since the books were being held up in Asia, and this is a sci-fi horror comic about deadly creatures,” quipped Dorman. “But the timing of this delay is suspect.”

Initially the cover was said to be a concern for fans of the president due to the image of a gun-toting Obama during a summer filled with the administration talking about the need for more gun control in America.

But with the president’s current stance on Syria and the possibility of him ordering a U.S. military strike against Assad-regime forces, “The Other Dead” cover could add fuel to the fire for those who say Obama is determined to take action, no matter what Congress or anyone else has to say about Syria.
